God Among The Ruins : A Vision of Living Water

Ezekiel, a young priest in exile, experienced visions that revealed both the depth of Israel’s idolatry and the life-giving presence of God. While living among the Judean exiles in Babylon, he saw a storm from the north, living creatures, wheels within wheels, and a radiant throne—showing that God is not confined to a temple or location. Even in exile, His glory meets His people.

God then shows Ezekiel the temple in Jerusalem, exposing how idolatry had crept inward. At the north gate, an idol replaced trust in God. In secret rooms, leaders worshiped false gods, assuming God’s absence. Women grieved for the Babylonian deity Tammuz, trying to manipulate blessing. Priests in the inner court bowed to the sun, turning their backs on God even in His house. Idolatry begins quietly, grows where God seems absent, often appears spiritual, and peaks when hearts turn from Him. Modern idols—money, success, or political loyalty—follow the same pattern.

But God does not abandon His people. In Ezekiel 47, a new temple appears, with life-giving water flowing outward. What begins as a trickle becomes a river that restores, heals, and revives. God’s presence brings life where sin brought death. The hope of Ezekiel—and the Gospel—is that when we return to Him in worship, His blessings flow, bringing renewal, gratitude, and abundant life.
