Who Is Jesus?: The Distraction Dilemma

Pastor Colby Rohde

April 6, 2025

Life is filled with distractions, and even good things—like serving—can pull us away from what is most important. When Jesus visited Mary and Martha, Martha was overwhelmed with busyness, while Mary sat at His feet, listening to Him. Jesus gently corrected Martha, not because serving was wrong, but because she had allowed it to take priority over being with Him.

Distraction isn’t just about what we do—it’s about what captures our hearts. We can be so consumed with responsibilities, expectations, and even ministry that we miss the one thing we need most: intimacy with Jesus. True peace doesn’t come from getting everything done; it comes from learning to sit in His presence.

Jesus prioritizes this because we are spiritual beings. No amount of work, entertainment, or success can satisfy our souls apart from Him. When we neglect time with Jesus, we feel restless, empty, and burned out. But when we learn to abide in Him, we gain the strength to handle life’s demands.

Before we serve, we must sit. Before we work, we must worship. Jesus invites us to a life of balance, where time with Him fuels everything else we do.
