Love That Leads: Love That Stays

Ruth 1 takes place during the chaotic period of the Judges, when everyone did what was right in their own eyes. Into that instability comes a deeply personal tragedy. Elimelech dies. His sons die. Naomi is left empty. Ruth is left widowed. The future looks bleak.

But in the middle of loss, Ruth makes a stunning declaration of loyalty:

“Where you go I will go… your people shall be my people, and your God my God.”

Ruth’s love is not sentimental. It is covenantal. It is costly. It is faithful.

Behind this human story of devotion, we begin to see something bigger. God is quietly at work in the famine, in the migration, and in the return to Bethlehem. What looks like emptiness is not the end of the story.

Ruth 1 reminds us that God is present in loss, faithful in uncertainty, and always writing a greater story than we can see.
