This Is Church: This Church Stands On The Resurrection

In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul brings the Corinthian church back to what is “of first importance”: the Gospel. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and appeared to many witnesses. The resurrection is not a secondary Christian belief; everything stands or falls on whether Jesus really rose from the dead.
Paul shows that the resurrection gives our faith a foundation, guarantees that death will not have the final word, and gives eternal significance to our lives today. If Christ had not been raised, preaching would be empty, faith would be futile, believers would still be in their sins, and death would ultimately win. “But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead.”
The resurrection is God’s great reversing reality: perishable becomes imperishable, dishonor becomes glory, weakness becomes power, and death is swallowed up in victory. Therefore, believers can remain steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord because our labor in Him is “not in vain.”
For a church as broken as Corinth, this was a message of enormous hope. Resurrection means brokenness does not have to be final. And because Jesus is alive, the Church should never make its conclusions too soon.
