Lead Like Jesus: Radically Present
February 8, 2026
John 11 drops us into a home in upheaval. Lazarus has been dead four days, mourners fill the house, and two sisters respond to the same loss in two very different ways. Martha runs to Jesus with words, questions, and frustration. Mary collapses at His feet with tears.
What stands out most is how Jesus leads. He doesn’t shame Martha’s honesty, He engages her and reveals Himself: “I am the resurrection and the life.” He doesn’t rush Mary past her grief, He is deeply moved, greatly troubled, and He weeps. Then Jesus does more than comfort: He acts. He calls for the stone to be moved, He prays, He speaks life, and then He gives the community a role: “Unbind him, and let him go.”
This passage shows what Christlike leadership looks like in the home: staying present with people where they are, and then courageously guiding them toward what is true, right, and life-giving.
