The Light Has Come: The Light of Life Has Appeared
November 30, 2025
John begins his letter by grounding the gospel in reality. Jesus is not a symbol or a spiritual idea—He is the eternal Word of Life who was heard, seen, and touched. The God who was from the beginning stepped into human history in physical form so that we might know Him personally. This revelation invites us into fellowship with God and with one another, and that fellowship is the pathway to complete joy.
John then reminds us that God is light. In Him there is no darkness at all. Light reveals, exposes, and purifies; darkness hides, distorts, and isolates. Walking in the light does not mean achieving perfection but choosing transparency before God—bringing our sin, struggles, and real selves into His presence. When we live this way, the blood of Jesus continually cleanses us, and true community becomes possible.
Finally, John calls believers to confession. Denying sin only deepens our self-deception. Confessing it brings forgiveness and cleansing because God is faithful and just—He has already satisfied justice through Christ. Advent reminds us that Jesus, the Light of the World, came not to shame us but to rescue us. Stepping into the light is the first step toward joy.
